History

50 years is a long time. Establishing the Popular Front of Estonia, hundreds of companies, first banks, beauty pageants, and creating the city of the future are just a few colorful examples on our journey.

1970

1971
In the Estonian SSR, the Center for Scientific Organization of Work and Management of the Ministry of Light Industry (Kergetööstuse Ministeeriumi Töö ja Juhtimise Teadusliku Organiseerimise Keskus or TJTOK), later known as Mainor, started operating.

1973
On Mainor’s base, the first international meeting of management scientists from 12 countries is held in Tallinn, which was the beginning of Mainor’s internationalization. Mainor has carried out problem-based learning among executives.

Mainor is visited by a delegation of US senators to acknowledge the work done so far.

Mainor introduces the so-called continuous learning method to companies.

1977
On Mainor’s base, the first joint seminar of USSR and US management scientists is held concerning the training methods of managing directors, and Mainor receives a next generation computer that occupied a whole floor and marked the beginning of computerization.

Health care courses started, and the first health center Vitalis was established.

Introducing the matrix method of economic analysis.

1982
The Mainor name is introduced.

Mainor is the first to start establishing small businesses in the Soviet Union.

Mainor’s karate club is established.

1987
The scientists of Mainor and TPI receive the only Estonian national science award in the Soviet Union for management innovation (the matrix method of economic system analysis).

The Popular Front of Estonia is established. The people of Mainor actively participated in creating the concept of IME (“miracle” in Estonian) or Self-Managing Estonia.

The first Miss Estonia beauty pageant was organized by Mainor.

The Union of Estonian Working Collectives (Töökollektiivide Liit) is established along with Estonia’s first traveling agency Mainor Meelis, which is still operating and now called Mainor Travel.

Edgar Savisaar starts working as the science manager of Mainor.

The newspaper Äripäev is founded by Mainor and Dagens Industri.

Mainor frames the statutes of limited companies.

Mainor is converted into a private limited company.

Estonian Entrepreneurship University of Applied Sciences (formerly Mainor School of Economics) is established by Mainor which today is the largest private university in Estonia.

Mainor introduces the first bank card in Estonia.

In 1993-1996, the specialists of Mainor are discussing the successful privatization of more than 50 companies.

Mainor is privatized.

Ülemiste City AS is established, and today’s biggest business campus in the Baltic States is founded.

A contract is signed with the international commercial developer Technopolis to together develop Ülemiste City.

Mainor signs a memorandum of cooperation with Tallinn University of Technology.

Mainor establishes Tallinn International School in Ülemiste City—a school that offers education in English according to the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB).

In cooperation with EAS, Mainor opens the International House of Estonia that offers all the necessary information and services for foreign talents to start living and working in Estonia.

In Ülemiste City, the city of the future professorship is launched that was created in cooperation between TalTech, Mainor, Mainor Ülemiste, Technopolis Ülemiste, city of Tallinn, Ericsson, and Telia.

Technology company Cleveron in cooperation with Estonian Entrepreneurship University of Applied Sciences, created Cleveron Academy that offers professional higher education to study robotics software.
